The chain-mail generator draws interlocking rings in the classic 4-in-1 European weave pattern. Each ring is rendered as an annular shape — a solid outer circle with a transparent inner hole — and rings are placed on a staggered grid so that each ring passes through four neighbours. A lighting pass adds specular highlights to the top edges of each ring and shadows to the undersides, giving the flat-ring pattern visible metallic depth. Weathering is applied via a noise overlay that darkens individual rings unevenly.
ringSize controls the diameter of each individual ring. weavePattern toggles between European 4-in-1, Japanese 6-in-1, and Persian variants. tarnish adds random darkening to simulate age and wear. material biases the tint between steel, bronze, silver, and blackened iron.
Fantasy game armour textures, medieval architectural visualisation, historical reenactment reference art, tabletop RPG battle-map prop illustration, and decorative backgrounds for fantasy-themed content.
Real chain mail often shows a patina of use — push tarnish above 0.3 for anything that reads as authentic rather than fresh-out-of-the-forge. Blackened iron (rather than polished steel) is historically more common for combat mail. For visual density, reduce ring size below 0.05 — fine mail rings read as proper armour, while oversize rings read as costume jewellery.
