How this texture was made

The chain-mail generator draws interlocking rings in the classic 4-in-1 European weave pattern. Each ring is rendered as an annular shape — a solid outer circle with a transparent inner hole — and rings are placed on a staggered grid so that each ring passes through four neighbours.
