How to Use Your Bark Texture Generator Texture

CSS Background

Apply as a CSS background for nature and eco-themed website sections. Use background-size: cover and pair with a semi-transparent dark overlay for readable text over the rough bark surface.

background: url('texturize_bark.png') repeat; background-size: 256px 256px;

Blender

Use as Base Color and generate a strong Displacement map (0.05-0.15) for deep bark fissure geometry. Set Roughness to 0.8-0.95 and add Subsurface Scattering at low values for realistic translucency in thin bark areas.

Unity & Unreal Engine

In Unity, use with Parallax Occlusion Mapping for deep bark crevice depth without added geometry. In Unreal, combine with a macro bark normal map and use distance-based LOD to swap between tessellated close-up and flat far-distance materials.

Photoshop & Figma

Use as a natural texture overlay in Photoshop for eco-brand mockups and organic-themed composite designs. In Figma, apply as an image fill on card backgrounds for nature-inspired UI elements and environmental branding.

Game Development

Use for tree trunks, log cabins, wooden fortifications, and forest environment props in open-world and survival games. Vary the bark texture across tree species by adjusting color and fissure scale.

Architectural Visualization

Use for natural wood cladding, cork bark wall panels, and biophilic design accent walls in sustainable architecture renders. The organic texture connects interior spaces to natural materials.

Print & Packaging

Use as a background for eco-friendly packaging, organic food branding, and nature conservation materials. The raw bark texture communicates sustainability and connection to nature.

Social Media & Video

Creates a natural, earthy backdrop for eco-brand content, hiking and outdoor adventure posts, and sustainability campaigns. The organic texture grounds digital content in the natural world.

Bark Texture Generator FAQ

Are these textures seamless?▼
Yes. Every texture produced by our generators is designed to tile seamlessly in all directions. You can repeat the image horizontally and vertically without visible seams, making it ideal for large surfaces in 3D rendering, web backgrounds, and game environments.
What sizes can I download?▼
Each texture can be downloaded as a lossless PNG in three resolutions: 1024×1024, 2048×2048, and 4096×4096 pixels. You can also download all three sizes at once as a ZIP bundle that includes a LICENSE file and a settings.json with the exact parameters used to generate the texture.
Can I use these textures commercially?▼
Absolutely. All textures generated on Texturize are royalty-free for both personal and commercial use. No attribution is required. You can use them in client work, game assets, product packaging, architectural visualizations, and any other project.
What does the seed number do?▼
The seed controls the random variation of the texture. The same seed with the same settings will always produce the exact same result, making it easy to recreate or share specific textures. Click Randomize to explore new variations, or enter a specific number to reproduce a texture you like.
How do I create different bark species?▼
Ridge depth and width control the bark furrow appearance. High depth with narrow ridges creates oak-like deeply furrowed bark. Shallow, wide ridges with low roughness produce smooth birch-like bark. Vertical stretch elongates the pattern for tall tree trunks.
Can I add moss to the bark?▼
Yes. The moss amount slider controls how much moss covers the bark surface, and moss color lets you set the moss shade from bright green to darker forest tones. Moss appears naturally in the bark crevices for a realistic woodland appearance.
What are common uses for bark textures?▼
Bark textures are used for tree models in game environments, nature-themed web backgrounds, botanical illustration backgrounds, wooden craft product mockups, and environmental art for forest and jungle scenes.

How the bark generator works

Written by kungfury-sketch from hands-on experience building and maintaining the generator.

The algorithm

The bark generator combines vertically-stretched FBM for the overall fibre direction with a second horizontal-stretch FBM at a different scale for the characteristic deep grooves of tree bark. Crack networks are extracted from Voronoi edges and overlaid as dark channels. Per-region colour variation simulates the patchy lichen and moss that commonly grow on real bark. Different species (oak, birch, pine, cedar) are achieved through different parameter ranges rather than fundamentally different algorithms — the underlying structure is similar across woods.

What the parameters do

grooveDepth controls how pronounced the deep vertical channels are. crackDensity adjusts the secondary crack network. species biases colour and grain toward oak (red-brown, medium grooves), birch (pale, horizontal banding), pine (warm orange-brown, tight grain), or cedar (reddish, stringy).

What it's good for

Forest game environment textures, architectural visualisation of wood cladding with visible bark, nature photography compositing, game engine tree trunk textures, and editorial illustration for nature content.

Practical tips

Birch bark is easily the most distinctive — it reads as pale with black horizontal streaks rather than the vertical channels of most other species. Pine has the tightest, most uniform grain. Oak has pronounced diamond-pattern cracking at higher ages. Avoid making bark too regular; real bark has visible irregularity and patches of moss or lichen.
