How to Use Your Wood Grain Generator Texture

CSS Background

Set as a repeating CSS background with background-size tuned to match real-world plank proportions. Use image-rendering: auto for smooth grain rendering across retina and standard displays.

background: url('texturize_wood.png') repeat; background-size: 256px 256px;

Blender

Map with UV projection along the Y-axis to align grain direction with geometry. Add a Bump node connected to the texture at 0.02-0.05 strength for subtle surface grain relief.

Unity & Unreal Engine

In Unity, use a Detail Albedo map at 4x tiling for close-up grain detail on furniture models. In Unreal, feed the texture into a World Aligned Texture node for seamless coverage on irregularly shaped meshes.

Photoshop & Figma

Apply as a background layer in Photoshop with Soft Light blending for a warm wooden overlay effect. In Figma, use the texture as an image fill on rounded rectangles for realistic UI card components.

Game Development

Use for cabin interiors, medieval furniture, ship decks, and fence assets in open-world and survival games. Rotate UV mapping 90 degrees for cross-grain details on end-cut surfaces.

Architectural Visualization

Perfect for hardwood flooring, cabinetry, and ceiling beams in residential interior renders. Vary hue and brightness across planks to avoid repetitive tiling artifacts.

Print & Packaging

Adds an organic, craft-inspired aesthetic to food packaging, artisanal product labels, and eco-friendly brand collateral. Works well as a background for brown kraft paper designs.

Social Media & Video

Use as a warm, natural backdrop for food photography, handmade product showcases, and rustic-themed social media posts. The grain texture adds tactile warmth to flat digital layouts.

Wood Grain Generator FAQ

Are these textures seamless?▼
Yes. Every texture produced by our generators is designed to tile seamlessly in all directions. You can repeat the image horizontally and vertically without visible seams, making it ideal for large surfaces in 3D rendering, web backgrounds, and game environments.
What sizes can I download?▼
Each texture can be downloaded as a lossless PNG in three resolutions: 1024×1024, 2048×2048, and 4096×4096 pixels. You can also download all three sizes at once as a ZIP bundle that includes a LICENSE file and a settings.json with the exact parameters used to generate the texture.
Can I use these textures commercially?▼
Absolutely. All textures generated on Texturize are royalty-free for both personal and commercial use. No attribution is required. You can use them in client work, game assets, product packaging, architectural visualizations, and any other project.
What does the seed number do?▼
The seed controls the random variation of the texture. The same seed with the same settings will always produce the exact same result, making it easy to recreate or share specific textures. Click Randomize to explore new variations, or enter a specific number to reproduce a texture you like.
How do I create different wood species?▼
Adjust the wood tone slider to shift between light birch tones and dark walnut. Ring spacing controls the growth ring density, while grain intensity and fine grain add realistic surface detail. The presets offer quick starting points for common species like oak, cherry, and pine.
What controls the wood knot pattern?▼
The knot frequency slider determines how many knot formations appear in the texture. Knots are generated procedurally and interact with the grain lines naturally. The center X and Y controls shift the focal point of the ring pattern for varied compositions.
Is the wood texture suitable for 3D rendering?▼
Yes. The wood textures tile seamlessly and work well as diffuse/albedo maps in Blender, Unity, Unreal Engine, and other 3D software. For best results, download the 4096px version for close-up shots and use the 1024px version for distant surfaces to optimize performance.

How the wood generator works

Written by kungfury-sketch from hands-on experience building and maintaining the generator.

The algorithm

The wood generator combines radially stretched Perlin noise with a ring function to produce grain. The Perlin noise is evaluated on coordinates where the x-axis has been multiplied by a large factor — that stretching is what turns round noise clumps into elongated streaks parallel to the grain direction. A separate concentric ring pattern, generated by taking the sine of a distance-based function, overlays the annual growth rings. The two signals are combined with a configurable ratio so you can blend fine grain into heavy ring detail or emphasise one over the other.

What the parameters do

grainFrequency controls how tightly packed the streaks are — high values give you dense hardwood, low values give you broad pine-like grain. ringFrequency sets the annual ring density independently. grainContrast darkens the grain lines; ringContrast does the same for rings. The colour sliders let you mix warm oak tones, pale birch, or dark walnut.

What it's good for

Flooring and panelling in architectural renders, furniture texturing in product visualisation, game-engine ground planes for cabins and boardwalks, web backgrounds for hospitality sites, and illustration of wooden crates, barrels, and planks in stylised art. Pair with the normal-map tool to give the grain real surface depth.

Practical tips

For end-grain effects, swap the x and y stretching axes — the current generator is set up for side-grain. For knots and burls, add a second FBM pass with very low frequency and high contrast, then blend it on top; the preset gallery includes a burl variant that shows the technique. Walnut and cherry both benefit from saturation boosts on the darker channel.
