The fabric generator simulates woven cloth by alternating horizontal and vertical thread passes in a checkerboard pattern. Each thread is drawn as a soft-edged ellipse whose colour comes from a weighted average of the base colour and a small per-thread noise offset. The alternating over-under weaving produces visible shadow lines at every intersection — this is what separates woven fabric output from flat colour with a tile pattern. An optional FBM pass adds slubs and inconsistencies to simulate natural yarn variation, which is especially important for linen and raw cotton looks.
weaveSize controls the thread thickness. Smaller values give you fine silk or satin, larger values give you coarse burlap or canvas. slubStrength governs how much the per-thread noise offsets the colour — crank it up for artisan linen, leave it low for manufactured cotton. threadTension adjusts the highlight contrast at intersections; higher tension reads as taut, tightly-woven fabric.
Fashion and garment product visualisation, interior design fabric swatches, game-engine clothing textures, UI backgrounds for boutique e-commerce, and flat-design art where a hint of cloth texture adds warmth. Combine with normal maps for pronounced woven relief in real-time materials.
Rotate the generator output 45 degrees to get a diagonal twill-like appearance for free. For heavier fabrics like tweed, use the preset with higher slub strength and desaturate the base colour. Silk reads best at low weaveSize and very low slub. Denim is handled by its own dedicated generator because its diagonal twill structure is different.
