How to Use Your Fabric Generator Texture

CSS Background

Tile as a CSS background at natural scale to preserve weave detail. Use background-size in pixel values matching the texture's repeat unit for pixel-perfect seamless tiling on retina screens.

background: url('texturize_fabric.png') repeat; background-size: 256px 256px;

Blender

Connect to Base Color and add a Bump node at 0.01-0.03 strength for weave surface relief. Enable Subsurface Scattering at 0.02 with a warm tint for realistic light transmission through thin fabric.

Unity & Unreal Engine

In Unity, use the Detail Normal Map slot for close-up thread-level detail on clothing meshes. In Unreal, add a Fuzz shading model in the Material for velvet or microfiber surfaces.

Photoshop & Figma

Use as a clipping mask background for apparel mockup templates in Photoshop. In Figma, apply as an image fill to shape layers and adjust opacity for subtle textile card backgrounds.

Game Development

Use for character clothing, curtains, banners, and upholstery in RPGs and simulation games. Vary UV scale between 0.5-2x across different garment pieces for natural-looking cloth variation.

Architectural Visualization

Perfect for sofa upholstery, curtain draping, and bedding in interior design visualizations. Combine with cloth simulation for realistic fabric folds and wrinkles.

Print & Packaging

Ideal as a background for fashion brand lookbooks, textile catalogs, and home decor brochures. The weave pattern adds tactile authenticity to printed fashion collateral.

Social Media & Video

Use as a soft, textured backdrop for fashion flat-lays, handmade product photography, and lifestyle brand content. The fabric weave adds a cozy, handcrafted feel to posts.

Fabric Generator FAQ

Are these textures seamless?▼
Yes. Every texture produced by our generators is designed to tile seamlessly in all directions. You can repeat the image horizontally and vertically without visible seams, making it ideal for large surfaces in 3D rendering, web backgrounds, and game environments.
What sizes can I download?▼
Each texture can be downloaded as a lossless PNG in three resolutions: 1024×1024, 2048×2048, and 4096×4096 pixels. You can also download all three sizes at once as a ZIP bundle that includes a LICENSE file and a settings.json with the exact parameters used to generate the texture.
Can I use these textures commercially?▼
Absolutely. All textures generated on Texturize are royalty-free for both personal and commercial use. No attribution is required. You can use them in client work, game assets, product packaging, architectural visualizations, and any other project.
What does the seed number do?▼
The seed controls the random variation of the texture. The same seed with the same settings will always produce the exact same result, making it easy to recreate or share specific textures. Click Randomize to explore new variations, or enter a specific number to reproduce a texture you like.
What weave types are available?▼
Three weave structures are supported: plain weave (simple over-under pattern), twill weave (diagonal lines like denim), and satin weave (smooth surface with minimal interlacing). Each creates a distinctly different textile appearance.
How do warp and weft colors differ?▼
Warp threads run vertically and weft threads run horizontally. By setting different colors for each, you can create plaid-like effects or subtle two-tone fabrics. Matching colors with slight variation produces realistic solid-color textiles.
Can I make the fabric look more natural?▼
Increase the irregularity slider to add random variation to thread positioning, mimicking handwoven imperfections. The texture noise control adds surface grain. Together, these transform a mechanical grid into a convincingly organic textile.

How the fabric generator works

Written by kungfury-sketch from hands-on experience building and maintaining the generator.

The algorithm

The fabric generator simulates woven cloth by alternating horizontal and vertical thread passes in a checkerboard pattern. Each thread is drawn as a soft-edged ellipse whose colour comes from a weighted average of the base colour and a small per-thread noise offset. The alternating over-under weaving produces visible shadow lines at every intersection — this is what separates woven fabric output from flat colour with a tile pattern. An optional FBM pass adds slubs and inconsistencies to simulate natural yarn variation, which is especially important for linen and raw cotton looks.

What the parameters do

weaveSize controls the thread thickness. Smaller values give you fine silk or satin, larger values give you coarse burlap or canvas. slubStrength governs how much the per-thread noise offsets the colour — crank it up for artisan linen, leave it low for manufactured cotton. threadTension adjusts the highlight contrast at intersections; higher tension reads as taut, tightly-woven fabric.

What it's good for

Fashion and garment product visualisation, interior design fabric swatches, game-engine clothing textures, UI backgrounds for boutique e-commerce, and flat-design art where a hint of cloth texture adds warmth. Combine with normal maps for pronounced woven relief in real-time materials.

Practical tips

Rotate the generator output 45 degrees to get a diagonal twill-like appearance for free. For heavier fabrics like tweed, use the preset with higher slub strength and desaturate the base colour. Silk reads best at low weaveSize and very low slub. Denim is handled by its own dedicated generator because its diagonal twill structure is different.
