How the stained-glass generator works
The algorithm
The stained-glass generator uses a Voronoi decomposition to partition the tile into irregular polygonal cells, then colours each cell with a hue from a curated palette. The cell boundaries are drawn as dark leading lines with slightly randomised thickness to simulate hand-cut lead came. A separate subtle texture is applied inside each cell — a mix of light variation and optional grain — to simulate the imperfections of handmade coloured glass. Highlights are added along the leading lines to simulate light catching the metalwork.
What the parameters do
cellDensity controls the number of glass panels per tile. leadingWidth sets the thickness of the dark boundary lines. palette picks between medieval cathedral, art nouveau, modernist, and contemporary colour schemes. textureIntensity adds internal glass variation — zero gives you flat solid panels, higher values add authentic hand-blown glass irregularity.

Practical tips
Medieval cathedral palettes heavily favour deep blues and reds with small accents of gold and green — keep most cells in those colours and use yellow sparingly. Art nouveau palettes are softer: sage greens, dusty pinks, pale yellows. The contemporary preset uses bolder, more saturated primaries. Keep leading width above 0.03 so the dark lines read clearly.
